Behind the Scenes: What a Rushed Photoshoot Actually Looks Like

Last spring I had a brand shoot moved up by two days. No warning. Here's what happened when I tried to wing it.

The ironing decision

I skipped ironing the linen trousers. "It's linen, it's supposed to look lived-in." The photographer spent 20 minutes in editing on those creases. She didn't charge extra but she mentioned it twice.

Jewelry I grabbed at the door

Statement earrings, layered necklaces, rings on four fingers. In the photos I looked like I was trying to fill silence with accessories. Everything competed. Nothing landed.

What I'd actually do differently

  1. Steam one outfit the night before — not the morning of
  2. Pick accessories first, then build the outfit around them
  3. Avoid anything you bought specifically for the shoot

The funny part? The one photo that worked was taken between setups when I'd taken the necklaces off and was just standing there. Simpler than anything I'd planned. Rushed styling shows less in what's missing and more in what you over-added.
